Joining the BFA

The questions most people ask first.

How much is Florist Business Membership?

Florist Business Membership is £156 a year including VAT and runs for 12 months.

Which membership should I choose?

Florist Business Membership is for florist businesses including retail shops, studios, wedding and event florists, home-based businesses, online florists and mixed business models.

IPF membership is for individual florists and also has routes for students and educators. Separate categories exist for suppliers, colleges, training schools and other industry supporters.

Do I need a high-street shop to join?

No. Studio, wedding and event, home-based and other florist businesses can apply if they meet the BFA criteria. Home-based businesses need a dedicated business workspace. The business website must be operational and the business must meet relevant legal requirements including appropriate public liability insurance and HMRC registration.

If you are unsure, email membership@britishfloristassociation.org.

When do I pay and how long does approval take?

Card payment is taken when you complete the application. Direct Debit options are also available. Once the BFA receives your application, the team reviews it before activating membership. This normally takes 5 to 10 working days.

Value and membership types

What you get and how IPF differs.

What are the benefits of joining the BFA?

Florist Business Membership is built around Save, Grow, Connect and Represent. Members can access practical business templates and guidance, changing member-only offers and discounts, Member Directory visibility, Bloom Rooms, BFA events, BFA Magazine, industry information and the wider member community.

The BFA also creates opportunities for members to be considered for relevant media, PR and industry enquiries when suitable opportunities arise.

How does IPF membership work?

IPF membership is for individual florists who want to demonstrate professional standing and continue developing their skills. Grades reflect qualifications and experience, with a route for bench-trained florists who meet the relevant portfolio criteria.

IPF membership currently ranges from £52 to £100 a year including VAT depending on grade. Explore the IPF.

Renewals and payments

Managing an existing membership.

How do I renew?

Use the BFA membership renewal page. You do not need to complete the full new-member application again.

Can I change my membership?

Yes. Email membership@britishfloristassociation.org to change membership details or discuss moving to a different category.

Can I cancel my membership?

Membership is a 12-month commitment. If you pay quarterly by Direct Debit, cancelling the Direct Debit does not end the membership commitment. Contact the membership team first so they can confirm any remaining balance and the best way to settle it.

What happens if I change bank?

If you use the Account Switch Service, membership payments should move to the new account automatically. Otherwise you will need an updated Direct Debit mandate. The renewal page provides the relevant route.

Directory, privacy and standards

After your membership is active.

When can I create my Member Directory profile?

Once membership is approved, Florist Business members can create and manage their profile in the BFA Member Directory.

Does the BFA operate an order relay service?

No. The Member Directory helps consumers find BFA florist businesses and contact them directly. It is not an order-relay service.

How is my personal information handled?

Personal information is handled in line with the BFA Privacy Policy, which explains how data is collected, used and protected.

Are members expected to follow BFA standards?

Yes. Members are expected to follow the BFA Code of Conduct and relevant membership terms and conditions.

Still unsure which route is right for you?

Compare the membership proposition first, or contact the membership team with a specific question.
