We welcome you to Duchy collage at Rosewarne set in 116 acres of land with well established plants and trees, this provides a perfect setting for our Floristry courses here at our Rosewarne Campus and we are lucky to be able to pick from the grounds to help create our designs.

The floristry courses are run by industry Lead tutors, Charlotte Dawe and Lizi Newbury, having this background of working within the floristry retail sector you can be sure you’re receiving Up-to-date knowledge, that’s forever changing within an incredibly creative profession.

Charlotte Dawe Study programme manager- Charlotte has a passion for all things flowers, since the age of 16 she took great interest into floristry design, upon leaving school she embarked on her studies of Floristry in Devon, alongside working for a well-established florist shop. She gained her city and guilds Level 2 Level 3 Floristry qualifications, after this she moved onto a city and guilds higher diploma Level 4 in Floristry.

Charlotte has competed at the renowned Chelsea Flower show gaining a Silver and Bronze medal. Most recently she has completed the UK skills competition and was awarded a Gold medal for her work.

Charlotte is a qualified NAFAS area demonstrator, and her latest venture brings her here as study programme manager here at Duchy College 

Lizi Newbury- Floristry Tutor – Lizi Newbury, started her floristry career when she was just 15, after falling in love with all things flowers during work experience in Kent.

In 2000, Lizi and her family moved to Cornwall, where she attended Duchy College at Rosewarne, Camborne – achieving her City and Guilds NVQ qualifications Level 2 and 3  During, and following her studies, she continued working in a top quality florist in Truro, where she quickly became regarded as a valuable member of the team.

Lizi’s passion for flowers, as well as her eye for design, has enabled her to teach, demonstrate and judge floristry. After being headhunted for the original Wheal Sara Flowers team in 2006, at just 21, Lizi became the sole proprietor of Wheal Sara Flowers. The business has blossomed ever since.

Our courses provide practical floristry skills and help you to explore your creativity, you also will have the opportunity to take part in Competitions such as the Royal Cornwall Show, and help with onsite floristry work for stately homes such as Mount Edgcumbe in Plymouth.

We offer a range of part time courses, suitable for all abilities, so whether you are taking your first steps towards your dream job, want a change in career direction or to upskill, our floristry courses will help you with the skills and knowledge you need to embark on a career within the floristry profession be it in a retail environment, freelance florist or the wholesale sector.

The courses we offer- Level 2 and 3 City and Guilds technical qualifications with placement work experience as a key part of the courses.

We have a wide range of IT facilities and resources here at the college to help you with your studies.

LEVEL 2 TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE IN FLORISTRY

Developing practical design skills and emphasising the fundamental principles of floristry and retailing, this course is an ideal steppingstone to more advanced qualifications. Ideal for budding florists of any age, you will gain the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to cope with the day-to-day responsibilities involved in a floristry shop. Within this course you will also benefit from a minimum of 150 hours work experience in a floristry shop. This exposure to real-life situations will enhance your learning and enable you to understand the different situations a florist encounter.

Course Duration: Full Time

College Attendance: 1 year 2 days a week plus 150 HOURS work experience.

Assessment Method:

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully

achieve the following assessments:

·  One externally set, externally moderated assignment

·  One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under exam conditions

·  One externally set, internally marked Health and Safety assignment

Entry Requirements:

Minimum of four GCSEs C-D Grade or equivalent (Level 1 Diploma), which must include GCSE in English OR Maths A*-D Grade or equivalent. Students need to have a willingness to learn and an aptitude for coursework. Although no previous floristry experience is required, students should have a genuine interest and commitment to pursue a career in floristry.

LEVEL 3 TECHNICAL DIPLOMA IN FLORISTRY

Further developing your practical floristry skills, this course covers a range of advanced designs such as bridal and sympathy work. You will learn about the marketing and retail skills needed to be a successful florist and gain an insight into the correct use of corporate image. Within this course you will also benefit from a minimum of 300 hours work experience in a floristry shop. This exposure to real-life situations will enhance your learning and enable you to understand the different situations a florist encounter. By the end of the course you should have the necessary tools to start your own business or progress onto one of our higher educational programmes.

Course Duration: Full Time

College Attendance: 1 year, 2 days a week.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should have five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including 2 in English and Maths) or a full Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or equivalent.
