The British Florist Association proudly created a floral stand feature at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May as a highlight of its 100th anniversary celebrations.
The British Florist Association wowed visitors to the Floristry Zone of Chelsea’s famous Great Pavilion with a bold, innovative ‘Floral 100’ installation in celebration of a century as the voice of the independent florist, reaching millions with a feature on the dedicated BBC Chelsea programme.
After months of planning and four days of creating the BFA Floral 100 instalation it was complete and being enjoyed by visitors of the RHS Chelsea Flower show the verdict… Absolutely fabulous darling!
The colossal freestanding number ‘100’ some 2.5 metres high, decorated with over 6000 fresh cut flowers in eye-catching, vibrant shades of pink, orange and green. Was a real draw to visitors, including the celebrities as the giant circles of flowers made the ultimate selfie frame! (Although the BFA team were happy to take the image too!)
Designed and created by the higher tier floristry students and expert floristry tutors from Moreton Morrell College, the BFA’s striking 2.5m high display contains over 6000 cut flowers and foliages in a fresh, confident palette of hot pink, orange, lime green and pops of golden yellow. The ‘Floral 100’ skilfully blended gardeners’ favourites such as roses and peonies with gloriously exotic gloriosa, celosia, vanda and phalaenopsis orchids, sandersonia, leucospermum, germini, craspedia, dianthus, santini, trailing amaranthus and fascinating, textural foliages such as echeveria, tilandsia usneoides, tilandsia
xerographica, brunnia, rhipsalis, galax leaves and carpet moss.
Monday saw the doors open to the press and celebrities – This year the show has probably had more coverage than ever before with Chris Evan’s radio two breakfast show coming from the show in the morning. Chris Evans created a garden the ‘Taste Garden’ along with Mary Berry, designed by Jon Wheatley.
Jo Whiley also created a BBC 2 garden ‘The Scent Garden’ although was delighted to take time out to enjoy our 100, her friends and mum were keen to get group shots too, passing their phones over to ensure they had their own pictorial records.
Nicky Chapman came directly from filming her handtied slot with Simon Lycett to enjoy our Flora 100.
The design cleverly reflected over the 100 year celebration by the of fascinating archive photographs on the back wall of the stand – showcasing florists, florist shops and floral styles of the past century.
