As the Christmas season approaches, wreath-making workshops are popping up on every florist’s agenda. We recently attended an evening held by our corporate member Flowervision Bristol, led by talented florist Tracy, where she described her approach to wreath-making this year—no base, no moss, and no foam insight.
Eco-Friendly Wreath with a Twist
Tracy’s method is both simple and sustainable, making it perfect for florists looking to get creative with workshops. The technique involves creating a wreath base from scratch, using nothing but twine and foliage.
Here’s how it’s done:
- Start with a “sausage” of foliage using twine, bind together branches, foliage and greenery into one long piece, creating a flexible “sausage.”
- Shape the wreath and secure it
- Layer up your wreath with the usual high grade Christmas foliages
- Add your choice of accessories for a unique touch that reflects your style—whether contemporary, rustic, or traditional.
As always, play around with testing longevity for yourself, using different types of foliages in the base and don’t forget to let us know if this works for you!
For Every Occasion
This method not only results in stunning Christmas wreaths but can also be adapted for other occasions, including sustainable funeral tributes. The wreath’s simplicity offers a wonderful alternative for natural burial grounds, where the focus is on biodegradable and compostable materials.
So, whether you’re preparing for the holiday season or exploring new ideas for your sustainable floristry range, Tracy’s eco-friendly wreath-making approach is another design to add to your repertoire
Happy wreath-making!
