FleurEx 2024: The competitions

Not only are we hosting the live finals of the UK Florist of the Year at FleurEx 2024 (on the Saturday) but we also have our popular ‘bring ready made’ competitions for you to enter as well on Sunday 29th September. All at the East Midlands Conference Centre, where FleurEx will be held.

For FleurEx 2024 we want to help you to reignite the passion and skills of floristry. If it is for yourself, staff or something fun to connect to your floral friends, we have you covered.

There will be four individual competitions.

Individual Competitions

To take part in these competitions simply select the schedule which suits you best. Buy an entry ticket and a competition ticket using the links below, make your design and bring it to the show. Don’t forget to read the T&C’s for all the specifics and timings.

Competition 1 (Student competition)

ThemeHand tied bouquet
DescriptionA hand tied bouquet with a framework to celebrate the year of the Dragon. The bouquet must have one tie point and be able to be held in the hand. The bouquet must have a water source.

Maximum 60x60cm, Height limit 2m.
TechniqueFree
MaterialAll material for this design to be supplied by the competitor.
PreparationPre-made
DisplayTo be displayed on an open table. Tables will be provided by the BFA for display purposes only.

The competitor must supply the water source/container in which the bouquet will be displayed. The water source/container will not be judged as part of the design.
JudgingAt least two thirds of the finished design must be fresh flower and /or plant material. The fresh flower and /or plant material must be visually dominant.

The judges will be looking for a high standard of technique and design.

The judges will need to handle/remove the bouquet for judging purposes.
 
All pieces will be judged but any designs showing obvious disregard to the schedule will be marked 0 for Interpretation and an additional 20 penalty points will be deducted from the total. The competitor will not be placed.

The Student competition is open to florists with less than 3 years experience.

Competition 2

ThemeFloral Collar 
DescriptionCreate a floral collar to be worn by a named celebrity at the Met Gala red carpet event. 
ShapeFree
Size
Maximum 60x60cm, Height limit 2m.
TechniqueFree
MaterialAll material for this design to be supplied by the competitor.
PreparationPre-made
DisplayTo be displayed on an open table. Tables will be provided by the BFA for display purposes only.

The support/stand will not be judged as part of the design.
Judging At least two thirds of the finished design must be fresh flower and /or plant material. The fresh flower and /or plant material must be visually dominant.

The judges will be looking for a high standard of technique and design.

The judges will need to handle/remove the design for judging purposes. The design must be detachable from the support /stand it is displayed on. 

The name and/or image of the chosen celebrity must be displayed next to the piece. How this is displayed will not be judged. 
 
All pieces will be judged but any showing obvious disregard to the schedule will be marked 0 for Interpretation and an additional 20 penalty points will be deducted from the total.  The competitor will not be placed.

DescriptionCreate a free-standing floral column design to celebrate the ‘fruits of the land’.

Maximum 60x60cm, Height limit 2m.
TechniqueFree
MaterialAll material for this design to be supplied by the competitor.
PreparationPre-made
DisplayTo be displayed on the floor of the competition room. The design must be stable and freestanding.
Judging At least two thirds of the finished design must be fresh flower and /or plant material. The fresh flower and /or plant material must be visually dominant.

The judges will be looking for a high standard of technique and design.

All pieces will be judged but any designs showing obvious disregard to the schedule will be marked 0 for Interpretation and an additional 20 penalty points will be deducted from the total. The competitor will not be placed.

DescriptionDesign a funeral heart to celebrate the life of Vita Sackville-West. You may use foam, but it is requested that if floral foam is used by competitors, it should be biodegradable.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The cut off to buy all competition tickets is 12pm 27th September, without exception. All competitors will also need a FleurEx entry ticket for the show.

All schedules have been written by the UK Floristry Judges Guild who will also judge the competitions.
