To demonstrate the UK’s continued support for the people of Ukraine, and to thank the British public for their continued support and generosity, the UK government has been working with the Ukrainian government on their plans to mark this Independence Day. The cabinet office approached the British Florist Association to help promote this initiative to florist in the UK.
A key part of this will be the #SunflowersForUkraine social campaign, which aims to show our support for Ukrainians, whether they be in the UK, Ukraine or displaced in other countries.
#SunflowersForUkraine
The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, and a symbol of hope for the future.
The social campaign aims to encourage high-profile individuals and the public to show their support to the people of Ukraine, by posting a photo or video with a sunflower using #SunflowersForUkraine, #StandforFreedom and ‘Ukraine Independence Day’ in the copy.
The sunflowers could be real, a drawing, a Google image, or using a social media filter. The idea is to use a simple, recognisable image as a visible and colourful demonstration of support for Ukraine.
Peak engagement is aimed for 23rd/24th August.
You can help to raise the profile of this simple act of support on (or just ahead of) 24th August.
You can support the campaign in the following ways:
- Post a photo with a sunflower on 23 or 24 August using #SunflowersForUkraine #StandforFreedom and ‘Ukraine Independence Day’ in the copy.
- Record a short video straight to camera incorporating sunflowers, wishing Ukraine well for their Independence Day. They may also wish to express what freedom means to them to align with social videos that the Government of Ukraine will post on the day. #SunflowersForUkraine #StandforFreedom and ‘Ukraine Independence Day’ in the copy.
- Incorporate the sunflower image to their social channels (more detail to follow)
- Tag #britishfloristassociation also to gain more coverage.
