3 Simple Things You Can Do Now to Boost Your SEO

As more customers turn to Google, social media, and even AI tools to search for florists, being visible online has never been more important.

For many of us, however, SEO can feel like a bit of a mystery – something technical, time-consuming, and often designed with bigger businesses in mind.

But the reality is, most florists don’t need complicated strategies or national reach. What matters is being easy to find by the customers already searching locally – whether that’s for everyday bouquets, wedding flowers, or event work.

So, where should you start?
We’ve teamed up with Helen and Jane from Queen Bee, who’ve shared three simple, practical things you can do right now to boost your visibility online – helping more of the right customers find you, without adding more to your already busy workload.

SEO can feel like one of those things you know you should be doing… but never quite get round to.
But here’s the good news. You don’t need to do everything.

In fact, if you did just three things, really well, you’d already be ahead of most florists in your area.

This isn’t about competing nationally or chasing trends. It’s about something much simpler: Being easy to find by the people already looking for what you do, in the area you serve.

And that applies whether they’re searching on Google… or increasingly asking AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude.

So, if we were in your shoes, here’s 3 things we’d do for our website, social media and Google Business Profile, to help us be found by the right customers.

Your Website

1. Make It Obvious What You Do and Where You Are

This might sound basic, but it’s one of the biggest things that can quickly be improved.
Search engines (and AI tools) are trying to understand your business at speed! If your website doesn’t clearly tell them what you do and where you are, they can’t confidently show you to the right people.

Be crystal clear about your location and services.
Within seconds of landing on your homepage, it should be obvious:

  • What you do e.g. Funeral florist providing x, y, z
  • Where you are e.g. from our independent flower shop in Radcaster, Lancashire
  • Who you’re for e.g. for people looking for bespoke funeral tributes…

Add this to:

  • Your homepage headline
  • The first paragraph of your website
  • Your footer

If someone has to guess where you are – you’re making it harder to be found.

2. Check your page titles and meta descriptions

These sound technical, but websites make these easy to fill in now.
Page title = the name of your page that shows in Google results
Meta description = the short summary underneath
Often we’ll see “Home” as a page title and no mention of location, so Google fills it in for you and it might not be reflective of the information on that page or what you want to be found for.
Instead, aim for something like:

Page title:
Florist in Radcaster Lancashire | Your Business Name
Meta description:
Independent florist in Radcaster creating award winning seasonal bouquets, wedding flowers and gifts. Same-day delivery across Radcaster and Workington.

NOTE – If you use a florist website provider (like FloristPro or Florist Window)
You might not manage this directly – and that’s absolutely fine. But it’s worth asking:

Can I edit my page titles and meta descriptions?
Are my location keywords included?
Can I add written text to my homepage?

Even small tweaks here can make a real difference.

2. Name your images properly

Your website is likely full of beautiful photos of bouquets, weddings and events, but the way they’re named can make a difference to how easily you’re found.

Images uploaded straight from your phone often have names like: IMG_1234.jpg

These don’t tell Google (or AI tools) anything about what the image is. So, before uploading, rename your images using clear, simple descriptions. For example:

wedding-flowers-radcaster-church.jpg
spring-bouquet-delivery-lancashire.jpg

You can also add alt text, which is a short description of the image. For example:

“Spring bouquet with roses and peonies with same day delivery in Radcaster.”

It’s a small step, but it helps search engines better understand your content and reinforces what you do and where you are.

Social Media

1. Make Your Content Searchable (Not Just Scrollable)

Your social media, like Instagram and Facebook, is highly searchable. Which means how you write your posts matters.

Use real search phrases in your captions.
When writing captions, think about what your customers might actually search for.

For example:
Instead of:
“Pretty bouquet”
Try:
“Spring bouquets being delivered across Radcaster”

It’s a small shift, but it gives your content context – and helps it get found. Just keep it sounding natural – a few words or phrases is fine.

“Check out our new spring bouquets being delivered across Radcaster”
“Spreading a little joy one bouquet at a time, our spring bouquets being delivered across Radcaster”

2. Add your location everywhere

This is one of the simplest and most effective things you can do. Make sure your location appears in:
Your bio
Your captions
Your hashtags (best practice is about 3 hashtags)
Your tagged location in posts, reels and stories

For example:

“Florist in Radcaster | Wedding & event flowers across Lancashire”

If you don’t clearly say where you are, you’re much less likely to show up when someone searches locally.

3. Use alt text to describe your images

Just like with your images on your website, most social media allow you to add Alt text to your photos – this is primarily for better accessibility, but it’s also another way to help them better understand your content and know who to share it with.

Instead of leaving it blank, try something like:
“Bridal bouquet with roses and peonies at a Radcaster wedding”

On Instagram, you’ll find the Alt Text field under ‘More options’ / Accessibility ‘Write Alt Text’

Google Business Profile: Your Local SEO Power Tool

If there’s one thing on this list that can make a quick difference locally it’s this.

Your Google Business Profile is what helps you show up when someone searches:
“Florist near me”
“Wedding florist Cheshire”

And yet, it’s often underused. So, here are three things to help maximise this.

1. Fully complete your profile

Just like your website and social. Make sure your profile clearly includes what you do, where you are and the areas you cover.

The more complete your profile, the easier it is for Google to match you to searches.

2. Add photos regularly

If you’re already posting on social media, you’ve got content ready to go.

Adding photos to your Google profile, keeps it active, signals your business is current and builds trust with potential customers.

Think of it as an extension of your social content, but specifically Google likes to see your shop, your workspace, your team and your product (flowers)

3. Ask for (and reply to) reviews

Reviews do three powerful things:
Build trust
Helps your ranking
Reinforce what you do and where you are

Get your ‘Ask for Reviews’ url/link from within your Business Profile and share it with your customers regularly.

And when you reply to a review, naturally weave in your searchable terms:
“So glad you loved your wedding flowers – the venue in Radcaster was stunning and that floral arch worked a dream!’

More and more customers – especially couples planning weddings – are using AI tools to search
The important thing to know is this:

AI tools don’t “rank” websites in the same way as Google. They pull from clear, consistent information across your online presence.

So the same rules apply:
Be clear about what you do
Be clear about where you are
Use consistent language

If a human can quickly understand your business – AI can too!

In Summary

You don’t need to overhaul everything. You don’t need to become an SEO expert.
But next time you’re uploading content to your website, writing a social post or updating your hours on Google, just keep in mind the words and phrases that are important for your floristry business…you’ll be in a much stronger position to be found by the people already looking for you.
